firstly i guess you cannot compute a value inside the function definition itself. secondly, use a different name for the variable instead of function name itself, then compute and return the variable, call the function if needed

def product(arg1 , arg2):
    a = arg1 * arg2
    return a

The variable product is not defined by an assignment statement. Try adding line product = arg1 * arg2
