    People get specialized training, they apprentice, or 0:11
    they go to school to learn the tools of the trade. 0:14
    Whether that trade is education, business, medicine, or 0:17
    of course web design and development. 0:21
    But whether you've learned the basics of your industry or if you're the fastest and 0:25
    smartest one around, getting a job isn't the same as being great at it. 0:29
    There are different kinds of skills that can help determine success. 0:34
    Hard skills refer to your ability to perform tasks that are specific to 0:39
    your job. 0:44
    Can you build a website? 0:45
    Can you design an app, teach yoga, repair a transmission. 0:47
    If you know how to do these things, 0:51
    it means that you've had specific training to provide you with skills and expertise. 0:52
    Soft skills, on the other hand, refer to personal and 0:58
    professional qualities that allow you to do your job better. 1:01
    These are sometimes called people skills, because it can refer to your ability to 1:06
    work and communicate effectively with others in groups as well as online. 1:10
    Soft skills also include mental attributes, 1:16
    such as problem solving, critical thinking, confidence, and attitude. 1:18
    So you might be asking yourself, what's the big deal? 1:25
    I mean, if I'm the best coder there is, there's no argument I mean, 1:28
    why worry about soft skills? 1:32
    Well, unless you plan on working in a cave or 1:34
    working only on your own projects for the rest of your life. 1:37
    Soft skills are essential to becoming a fully developed professional in the tech 1:41
    industry, and here's why. 1:45
    If you're looking for clients, but you have a lousy attitude, 1:48
    nobody will wanna hire you. 1:51
    If you can't be flexible with projects, or accept feedback, 1:54
    nobody will wanna share ideas with you. 1:57
    And if you can't work with a team or play nice with others, 2:00
    nobody's gonna wanna work with you. 2:03

    soft skills that you need to be successful at any job. 2:10
    And you'll find that many of these skills will be useful outside of work as well. 2:14
    If you can be an effective communicator, manage your time, work well with others, 2:18
