In this episode of Exercise Your Creative,
0:07
we'll be creating a show logo for our good buddies, Mike the Frog and Jungle Jim.
0:10
Their new show is called Let's Do Science.
0:14
Jim and Mike, can you tell me a little bit about the show?
0:17
Yeah, in our show, we like to blow things up and make lots of noise
0:19
and use a lot of fire.
0:22
Well, we do that, but we also teach science to children
0:24
using a lot of cool experiments.
0:27
Oh, awesome. Is there anything you guys want to incorporate into the logo?
0:30
Bright colors. >>Bright colors. It's for kids.
0:33
Science concepts--that kind of thing.
0:35
Well, I think I'm the perfect solution for you guys.
0:37
Awesome. >>Yeah.
0:39
To kick this project off, I'm going to start sketching.
0:41
I'm going to keep in mind two main details.
0:43
First, I want to keep in mind the target market of the show, which is kids.
0:46
This means I want a significant amount of visual movement
0:49
and high-contrasting, bright colors.
0:52
The second detail is the subject matter,
0:55
which should have science incorporated in it.
0:57
I think I have what I'm looking for.
1:00
Before we jump into illustrator, let's build this logo
1:03
with learning materials closely related to our target market.
1:06
How about construction paper?
1:09
By doing this, we will be able to get hands on
1:11
and pay close attention to the detail of the material.
1:14
Also, this allows us to really study a tangible item
1:17
and understand color balance and symmetry.
1:20
All of these materials you can acquire in the local art store.
1:24
I am using construction paper, an exacto knife, and a cutting board.
1:27
Now, let's start cutting.
1:31
[??]
1:34
There we have it--our final product.
1:49
You might be thinking the colors were selected randomly for the letters.
1:51
Actually, each color was selected
1:54
specifically to balance the composition.
1:57
I simply used color pattern to do this.
2:00
Watch. See how the dark blues balance with each other
2:02
as well as the yellows, oranges,
2:05
reds, and light blues?
2:08
Symmetrical color balance always presents us with a great final product.
2:10
Next, let's open up Illustrator and bring in our construction paper mock up photo,
2:15
which I took with my phone.
2:19
We are going to complete four main steps.
2:21
The first is to trace each letter and background
2:23
and add some fill gradients.
2:27
Then we are going to add some texture to the logo.
2:29
Next, we will give the logo a slight 3D effect.
2:33
Lastly, we are going to add a faint drop shadow.
2:37
There we have it, our final logo.
2:40
I don't know about you, but I'm ready to do some science.
2:43
Let's present this to Mike and Jim, and see what they think.
2:46
Are you guys ready to see the new logo? >>Yeah.
2:49
Here it is. >>Oh, that looks great!
2:52
I like it. >>Yeah.
2:54
Awesome. Glad you guys like it.
2:56
Well, as always-- >>Have fun-- >>and exercise your creative. Yep. Yep. Yep.
