Databases Modifying Data with SQL Adding Data to a Database Adding Data With SQL

INSERT INTO with NULL

We have an eCommerce database and it has a products table. It has the columns id, name, description and price.

Add a new product to the products table. Use any valid values you want. All columns are required. The id column is auto incrementing.

Ive already re-watched the video many times, I seem to be perplex by this question, is auto incrementing usually involve NULL? I will attached again in the AM when my mind is fresh..

thanks

You're quite right, the value for the auto-incrementing column can be NULL. You can also omit setting them entirely.

For a more specific answer, show the code line you were entering.

I don't understand either. I wrote:

INSERT INTO products VALUES (NULL, isabelle, gul, 19);

I got the message: "Bummer: Was expecting 4 entries in the products table. There's only 3."

After seeing the actual code, the issue is now clear. It seems that two of the supplied values are literal strings, but they are not enclosed in quotes. Try this:

INSERT INTO products VALUES (NULL, 'isabelle', 'gul', 19);
