Sign upThe last thing I'm going to do is show you how to use buttons in Coda to trigger 0:00 actions and other app-like functions inside of a doc. 0:04 As a simple example of how this works, we'll create a button that makes it 0:08 easy to add a new sample doc from the Coda Gallery to our Coda Use Cases page. 0:13 Go to Coda Use Cases, which is a sub page of the Coda Resources page, 0:19 in the My Resources section. 0:24 This is where we've listed many great examples of how Coda is used in different 0:27 companies in real life scenarios. 0:31 Let's create a button, that makes it easy for 0:33 you to add any docs you may find helpful in the Coda gallery, to this list. 0:36 Coda makes this really quick and easy with the slash command. 0:42 At the top of the table, type /add on the canvas. 0:45 Then select the Add Row button option. 0:49 In the button settings, rename the button, "Add new doc". 0:53 Rename the label, "Add new doc". 0:58 Then select the Sample Coda docs table, 1:03 you can change the size of the button and the color if you'd like. 1:07 For example, I'll change the size to Medium and the color to Yellow. 1:13 You could also add an icon like a plus (+) symbol for example. 1:19 Finally, scroll up to Open row for editing and click to toggle it on. 1:25 Then click anywhere on the canvas to close the button settings window. 1:31 Now you can click the new button to add a new doc. 1:38 Notice the pop-up window with the number of empty fields waiting to be filled in 1:41 like Doc name, Link, Company, Doc maker, Description, and so on. 1:46 With the pop-up window still open I'll head over to coda.io/gallery 1:50 and search for a doc I'm interested in. 1:56 I'm going to type in "5 ways" and 1:59 bring up the 5 ways to get the most out of one-on-ones doc. 2:02 This looks like a great doc to add to my list. 2:07 Over in the Doc name field, I'll add the title of the doc, 2:12 5 ways to get the most out of one-on-ones. 2:17 I'll enter Coda for Company, and Raechel Timme for Doc maker. 2:21 For Description, I'll add the text "Great one on one template". 2:32 Then I'll copy the URL of the one-on-ones doc and paste the URL into the link field. 2:40 Finally, I'll click the Show hidden columns link to bring 2:48 up a few more fields. 2:52 Under use case, I'll enter "1-on-1s". 2:56 Then select "Talent Development" from 3:04 the options in the Type drop down. 3:06 Notice how in the bottom of this window, you and 3:13 others you share this workbook with can add comments about this doc. 3:17 Now click the X at the top right of this window to close it. 3:21 I can find my new sample doc in the Talent Development column. 3:26 There it is, good. 3:31 As you've learned, buttons are an easy way to turn your docs into apps. 3:39 Not only can you perform simple actions like adding a new row to a table, but 3:43 when used with other integrations, 3:48 you can, with a click of a button in Coda, send a Slack or Gmail message, 3:50 perform calculations, generate random numbers or words, and much more. 3:55 Now that you've learned Coda's building blocks and 4:05 got a quick tour of a learning doc and how to customize it, you're ready to learn new 4:08 tools, programming, languages and concepts that are essential to your career in tech. 4:11 With Coda, not only will you get the most out of this workbook and 4:17 your Treehouse experience, 4:20 you'll have a powerful tool to take with you into your future jobs. 4:22 As always, I encourage you to use some of the tools you've learned to enhance your 4:26 workbook, and further customize it to fit your learning needs. 4:31 For more about Coda, head to the Coda resources posted in 4:35 the teachers notes with this video for links to tutorials, help and support. 4:38 Thanks everyone and happy learning. 4:42
